Product and Software Support Specialist

Title: Product and Software Support Specialist
Reports to:  Product/Technical Support Manager – Steve White
Based at: Wheatley, Oxford
Direct reports: 0
Normal working hours:
Monday – Friday 09:00–17:30
Shift Hours (where applicable)  08.00 – 16.30
Shift patterns are subject to change to suit the needs of a global business
Job summary:
To support customers, distributors, and internal staff by providing information on our diagnostic software, guidance on using products supplied by Opus IVS and deploying software updates and fixes. Support is provided by telephone, e-mail, and other electronic methods. To record the details of support provided in the internal CRM.
To act as the first point of contact for any inbound product or software related issues. You will be part of a team investigating vehicle data logs, platform logfiles and reviewing existing code to identify the root causes of customer issues. Based on your investigation you will resolve the customers issue, apply an existing fix, or escalate the issue accordingly.
To help identify trends in any software or product issues and escalate to the Diagnostics and Platform Teams, or the product manufacturer.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
  • Providing product and software support to internal and external users
  • Review vehicle logfiles and investigate the causes of issues
  • Review platform and operating system logfiles and investigate the causes of issues
  • Rectify issues where possible and deploy relevant existing software fixes
  • Where issues cannot be resolved escalate them to the relevant department or manufacturer
  • Record all issues and actions taken in company approved systems
  • Report on trends in issues and communicate these to the business
  • Work closely with other departments to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Create software and processes to improve the efficiency of providing software and hardware support
  • Any other duties required to support the needs of the business
Specific job skills:
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Good problem-solving skills
  • An analytical and critical thinking mindset
  • Understanding of Windows software architecture
  • Understanding of common computer programming languages
  • Ability to learn new computer programming languages
  • Understanding of automotive communication protocols (desired)
Computer Skills:
  • Computer language qualification (for example C, C#, Python, Git)
  • Microsoft office
  • Advanced spreadsheet functions
  • Knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Demonstrate competency in understanding computer languages

This is a software developer role to develop software for web applications. The Software Developer will be part of an agile development team, reporting to the Web Services Project Manager.
